Vancouver-based BigSteelBox Structures, a leading provider of steel modular buildings and accommodations, announced today its expansion plans for Northern B.C. to better serve the expanding liquid natural gas (LNG) industry.
President Devon Siebenga made the announcement at the 2014 International LNG in BC Conference in Vancouver where the Kelowna-based company is showcasing their skills in modular living construction and design with a display of the world’s most luxury living quarters—in a 40’ BigSteelBox.
The LNG industry in BC is estimated to create more than 39,000 annual jobs over a nine-year construction period and approximately 75,000 jobs once the plants are fully operational—more than 100,000 jobs in total. With the Buy BC Program, companies like BigSteelBox are expanding operations.
“LNG is a generational opportunity that will bring jobs and investment to all corners of British Columbia,” said Premier Christy Clark, who officially opened the conference. “The expansion of BigSteelBox into Northern B.C. is just one example of how businesses in British Columbia—including the Okanagan—will benefit from the economic activity created by a new LNG industry.”
The company, who currently serves the north from its stores in Terrace and Smithers, announced plans to expand service locations to Kitimat and Prince Rupert.
With two BigSteelBox Structures’ manufacturing facilities in B.C., the company is posed for growth to meet the needs of the expanding LNG industry. From portable structures and enclosures to custom steel buildings ranging from offices, E-houses and workforce housing, BigSteelBox Structures provide a truly modular solution for remote areas.
“BigSteelBox is redefining modular construction,” says Siebenga. “Traditional wood construction struggles to match the truly modular benefits of steel and container technology. While Siebenga sees his luxury living quarters as a vision of what is possible, he is excited about the current opportunities for his manufacturing team and other BC business that comes with the expansion of the liquid natural gas industry.
